- ISCED 1 = Lower Secondary Education
- English
Introduction
The games are intended to support pupils’ numeracy digital literacy skills in new engaging ways.
Learning Outcomes
By incorporating games like Kahoot in mathematics instruction, teachers can create an engaging and interactive learning environment that promotes mastery of mathematical concepts, critical thinking skills, collaboration, and motivation for learning.
Some potential outcomes of using Kahoot in the classroom are:
- Increased students engagement
- Enhanced retention and understanding
- Immediate feedback and progress tracking
- Increased motivation and confidence
- Technology integration skills
How Does It Work
Each game can either be played independently by pupils or with a teacher in a classroom setting. This is intended to provide greater flexibility of use, both for teachers and their pupils. The games facilitate whole class teaching and/or opportunities for independent study within or outside the classroom.
Why Is It A Good Practice?
Kahoot! bills itself as a “game-based digital learning platform,” but all pupils see is game. The games are intended to provide pupils with new ways of engaging with the material and with technology.
Assessment
“Because pupils and their instructor see immediate feedback between questions, this is a powerful tool for formative assessment, pupils hardly notice they are evaluating their own knowledge and being evaluated” (Lipp, G. 2015).
Inclusion
Games often employ a gradual increase in difficulty, offering scaffolding and support as children progress through levels or stages. This scaffolded approach helps children with learning disabilities gradually build their skills and confidence, preventing them from feeling overwhelmed and promoting a sense of accomplishment.
Games create a low stake learning environment where children can make mistakes, learn from them, and try again without fear of judgment or consequences. This can alleviate anxiety and reduce the pressure associated with traditional classroom assessments.
Kahoot allows teachers to create quizzes and activities that cater to students’ diverse learning needs. They can customize content to address specific topics, adapt difficulty levels, and provide differentiated instruction to accommodate various skill levels and learning styles.
